Fred Begy is a Principal at Chuhak & Tecson. A litigator and an aviation and insurance law specialist, Fred focuses his practice on aviation law, including aviation-related products liability and toxic tort litigation, airport construction matters and insurance policy drafting and interpretation.
Fred represented United Airlines in the Flight 232, Sioux City, Iowa, aviation disaster and Fine Air in the DC-8 Flight 101 Miami, Florida, aviation disaster. In addition to representing parties in more than 2,000 aviation accidents, he has enormous experience in the management of claims administration in large litigation cases, in handling claims arising from airport construction projects, including environmental litigation and construction insurance management, and in drafting aviation-related and other insurance policy provisions. Fred also represents rotary wing operators, maintenance facilities, aerial applicators, and other companies involved in the aircraft and aerospace industry, both nationally and internationally.
Although the complex litigation arising from aviation and environmental matters is his specialty, Fred's expertise transcends litigation and includes advising clients in the management of aviation-related businesses, transactional matters including international agreements, management of responsive efforts in the event of catastrophic disasters, regulatory matters including representation of clients before the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, review of airline operations and consultation with airline management in all aspects of the aviation business, drafting and review of airline emergency response plans, representation of alleged hazardous waste generators, and counseling alleged toxic tort generators. In conjunction with tax specialists in the firm, Fred advises his aviation clients on federal tax programs that may benefit aircraft purchasers and asset protection strategies for high-net-worth aircraft owners.
A pilot himself, Fred holds a Commercial Pilot’s Certificate for Single and Multi-Engine Land Airplanes and Instruments, and is both a certified flight instructor and an advanced and instrument ground instructor. Fred is a founder of the Aviation Insurance Association and is a member of a number of aviation industry organizations. He is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court.
