The Women's Initiative Group of Chuhak & Tecson, P.C.

The Women’s Initiative Group of Chuhak & Tecson, P.C. (WIG) was launched in November 2009 by the women attorneys of our firm to bring women entrepreneurs, decision makers and potential strategic partners together from all industries for networking opportunities, business development and service work. The uniqueness of this group is the opportunity members have to accomplish all three simultaneously—without carving out extra hours in a woman’s already-busy schedule. Members are free to opt-in, opt-out, and then opt back in as their schedule allows. Mix-and-Mingles are held at convenient Loop locations, with each gathering benefiting charitable organizations that serve women only, or women and children.

The November kick-off event benefited Bottomless Closet, which supports women in transition by providing business clothing and life-skills coaching, empowering women to find employment and achieve economic self-sufficiency. Over 80 attendees from more than 25 industries donated hundreds of clothing items and accessories, making it an overwhelming success.

The second Mix-and-Mingle, held in May, benefited Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women’s Network (CMBWN), a collaborative membership organization that improves the lives of battered women, their children and others impacted by domestic violence by leading public policy and advocacy efforts; providing education and raising public awareness; and connecting members of the community to direct service providers. WIG welcomed more than 100 members from over 20 industries who gathered to network and develop business while working side-by-side to assemble 200 necessity bags for CMBWN to distribute to women and children at battered women's shelters across Chicago. Twenty-nine individuals, groups and organizations donated thousands of items for assembly, such as children’s books, personal care items, journals, perfume, stuffed animals, snacks, socks, rain ponchos and first-aid items. Still others donated cash, personal checks and jewelry.

As peer professionals, Chuhak & Tecson recognizes the competing demands on a woman's time, so the firm created a group that understands a woman's need to serve her community, build her business, and network—and attend to all three areas without taking away from her work and personal commitments
