Working with business entities of all sizes, Patricia O'Brien concentrates her practice in the area of employee benefits.
Patti's broad knowledge base enables her to counsel clients on all aspects of both qualified and nonqualified benefit plans, including designing, drafting and administering defined contribution and defined benefit pension plans, 403(b) plans and a wide variety of nonqualified deferred compensation plans. Her extensive experience representing clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor gives her unique insight which she draws upon when advising employers, trustees and plan administrators on how they might limit potential liability in the performance of their fiduciary duties. Clients benefit from Patti's unique administrative experience in this area, as she works to ensure that employers can administer plans not only legally, but also practically and efficiently.
She advises clients on their changing responsibilities with respect to employee healthcare as Patti navigates them through the mazes of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) and cafeteria plans.
Patti has a wealth of experience in corporate transactional, executive compensation and employment matters. She has served as both inside and outside general counsel for a variety of corporations, providing legal advice on complex business matters. She enjoys developing close relationships with her clients, and makes it a point to understand her clients' backgrounds on both a business and personal level.
Patti is currently a member of the firm's Associate/Law Clerk Oversight Committee. She was previously chair of the Professional Education Committee and a member of the Quality and Recruitment Committees.
