Evan Blewett is a principal who focuses his practice on a variety of areas related to secured lending, real estate transactions, commercial litigation, contract law and corporate compliance.

His practice spans both transactional and litigation work representing business clients, with an emphasis on regional and national lenders, and representing financial institutions across the country that seek guaranteed government lending through the Small Business Administration (SBA) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) loan programs.

Evan’s expansive practice gives him the unique ability to help clients anticipate potential litigation pitfalls at the transactional level, while at the same time he is equally skilled as a well-informed and passionate advocate when litigation is unavoidable. Additionally, Evan draws on his extensive background in both statutory and regulatory compliance through helping his clients conduct compliance reviews and prophylactic research to anticipate and react to changes in the law.

Throughout the years, clients have valued Evan’s experience and knowledge with government-guaranteed loans, and he is one of a few nationwide attorneys whose practice primarily focuses on representing local, regional, and national lenders and loan servicers who make, package and service SBA and USDA loans.

What sets Evan apart from other attorneys is his natural ability to develop a deep understanding of his clients’ businesses and the issues they face, while keeping their immediate and future goals at the forefront of every legal solution. He has closed hundreds of transactions for both traditional and nonbank lenders. Evan’s experience in transactional lending gives him a nuanced and unique perspective on asset sales, stock and membership sales and both construction and nonconstruction commercial real estate lending. For clients seeking to manage the risks of their portfolios, Evan’s skill of drafting and negotiating complex forbearance and settlement agreements is buttressed by his deep background in both litigation and transactional work.

What Evan finds most rewarding about his practice is the opportunity to develop meaningful professional and personal relationships with his clients, which in turn furthers his professional goal of providing valuable and lasting legal results.

Evan’s experience includes working in both the federal government and campaign politics before beginning his legal career as a law clerk at Chuhak & Tecson. At the firm, he welcomed every challenge presented to him and quickly rose from law clerk, to associate, to principal, all the while fostering meaningful and lifelong relationships with his colleagues. As a result of his early legal experiences, Evan values every opportunity to mentor law clerks and associates throughout the firm.

Outside of the office, Evan enjoys spending his time sailing on Lake Michigan, traveling internationally and attending live musical performances from artists across a wide variety of genres.
