Chuhak & Tecson's Jeralyn Baran discusses new employment law with TMA
Jeralyn H. Baran, a principal with Chuhak & Tecson, P.C., and Michael F. Hughes, a partner at SmithAmundsen, presented new employment laws for 2020 to the Technology and Manufacturing Association’s (TMA) HR Peer Group on January 16. Their discussions focused on how the new laws affect these businesses and what modifications may be implemented to ensure their compliance with federal, state and local employment measures.
Baran has practiced in the areas of employment and commercial litigation for over 20 years and leads the firm’s 12-attorney Employment law practice group. She is a frequent presenter and thought leader on employment issues and has worked closely with TMA for more than a decade after the firm joined the association at the suggestion of several of its manufacturing clients. Serving on the steering committee for TMA’s HR Peer Group which holds quarterly meetings of owners and HR professionals to learn about employment topics, Baran regularly answers questions and advises on new developments in employment law—recently on disability accommodations and termination protocols. Additionally, Baran is an active member of TMA’s Women in Manufacturing Committee which annually grants the Rose Mottl Leadership in Manufacturing Award to an outstanding woman manufacturer, funds scholarship opportunities to introduce a new generation of women to manufacturing, sponsors tours of women owned manufacturers, works with the Girl Scouts on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) events, and hosts presentations. Baran has been named to the Leading Lawyers Network for nine consecutive years and to Illinois Super Lawyers for 10 years, including being named one of the top 50 women attorneys in Illinois.
Founded in 1925, TMA represents and supports manufacturers in the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding counties in northern Illinois, northern Indiana and southern Wisconsin. TMA has almost 1,000 members representing over 32,000 employees and nearly 26 million square feet of manufacturing plant.
