chaired the Heart of Mercy Ball to benefit Misericordia on Saturday, Nov., 12, at the Hilton Chicago.
“It’s been a privilege to serve Misericordia for the past decade and an even greater honor to chair the Heart of Mercy Ball this year. With the generosity of so many, including my partners, colleagues and friends, the Women’s Board has met and exceeded our goal of raising $1 million to benefit Misericordia. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful organization,” said Sethna.
Misericordia, a 501c3 not for profit corporation, offers a continuum of care that maximizes the potential for persons with mild to profound developmental and intellectual disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged. By serving society’s most vulnerable citizens, Misericordia also serves the families who want the best for them, yet cannot provide it at home.
While so many know Misericordia to serve children and adults with Down Syndrome, Misericordia also serves children and adults who lived otherwise “normal” lives until they sustained a life changing seizure, brain injury or illness that forever changed their needs. 20 percent of the 600 residents who call Misericordia home are at or below the poverty level. For them, Misericordia has been their only family and source of support. Every year, Misericordia must raise $18 million to bridge the gap in funding it receives from the State of Illinois.
