From financial institutions and businesses to young professionals and elderly couples, Christina Mermigas educates a wide variety of clients by explaining complex concepts in an understandable, manageable and useful format that empowers clients and provides peace of mind.
Licensed in both Florida and Illinois, Christina represents business and individual clients in estate planning and administration of estates and trusts. She prepares individually crafted estate planning documents, including revocable and irrevocable trusts, wills, powers of attorney and other estate planning vehicles for clients with modest estates as well as those with large, complex portfolios of assets.
An accomplished transactional attorney, Christina develops strong, trusting relationships with the owners of established or newly formed companies, whether closely held or publicly traded, to better understand their businesses and goals. She takes a detail-oriented, task-driven approach that helps her efficiently guide these clients through the myriad transactional and taxation issues they face every day.
Christina has extensive experience representing clients in all phases of a business’ life cycle, including entity formation, restructuring and reorganization, the sale of stock or assets and the transition of ownership and management. She provides counsel on mergers and acquisitions, shareholder and buy-sell agreements, and development and maintenance of corporate governance. She regularly negotiates and drafts all types of commercial contracts, including purchase and sale contracts, leases, and employment, confidentiality and noncompetition agreements.
For clients acquiring or leasing commercial, owner-occupied, multi-family and industrial properties, Christina protects and advances their interests at every step in the transaction, from due diligence to contract negotiation and drafting to closing and beyond.
Owners of growing businesses needing capital to fund expansion can rely on Christina’s extensive institutional lending experience, which has given her the insights needed to prepare loan documentation tailored to provide optimal protection for the entity and its owners. One of the greatest joys of her practice is working with family businesses to develop a prudent succession plan that will position their business for sustained prosperity for generations to come.
In 2021, Christina was named to the Illinois Super Lawyers Rising Stars list that is given to only 2.5% of attorneys in the state. During 2020, she earned the ranking of Emerging Lawyer from Leading Lawyers, which is an honor awarded to less than 2% of all lawyers in Illinois.
A magna cum laude graduate of Seton Hall University, Christina earned her law degree, cum laude, from DePaul University College of Law. Active in the firm’s operations and management, Christina has served as chair of the Associate/Law Clerk Oversight Committee, as a member of the Strategy Development Committee and as an ombudsperson for the firm. She currently serves as an ambassador of Chuhak & Tecson's Women Helping Women program.
On the weekends, Christina devotes her time to her precious daughter, her supportive husband and playing goalie on various women’s and co-ed ice hockey teams.
