David J. Bloomberg

Principal

From courtrooms to condo boards, from complex, bet-the-company litigation to the day-to-day issues faced by community associations, David Bloomberg’s combination of forceful advocacy, thoughtful guidance and personal commitment has made him the go-to attorney for clients’ thorniest and most consequential challenges.

Overview

David is the leader of the firm’s Condominium & Common Interest Community Association practice group and co-leader of its Litigation group. The common threads that bind the multidimensional aspects of David’s practice and have made him so effective are his natural problem-solving acumen and his appreciation of the human elements involved in his work. Both of these characteristics serve his clients well, whether he is crafting compelling, resonant arguments tailored to have the most impact on judges or juries, or developing creative yet practical strategies to resolve disputes between or among unit owners and condo associations.

In his litigation practice, David has handled some of the most sophisticated and seemingly intractable disputes in state and federal courts across the country. He has

extensive experience handling a broad spectrum of product liability claims on behalf of aviation and automotive industry clients, as well as manufacturers of commercial and consumer products. He has also litigated numerous aviation matters, including cases involving airports, airlines, ground handling and general aviation crashes.

At every stage in the litigation lifecycle, from case intake and evaluation through trial and appeal, David takes a collaborative approach with his clients that keeps them informed, involved and empowered with the information they need to understand what he is doing and why. He is relentlessly focused on obtaining the optimal outcome for his clients as they define it, always cognizant of their bottom lines and always implementing case strategies that align with their broader interests.

In his condo and community association practice, David provides full-spectrum representation to boards throughout Chicagoland, whether they serve a handful of owners or are responsible for governing a high rise with scores of units. He was a pioneer and recognized thought leader in the novel area of condo deconversions, a reflection of his subject matter knowledge and propensity for innovation and adaptability.

David’s condo work is grounded in his complementary understanding of both the applicable law and the on-the-ground realities of community living and governance. He has an intuitive appreciation of the unique needs and perspectives of board members, recognizing that they are volunteering to serve their communities with the best intentions but may lack the knowledge or background to address the legal, financial and interpersonal complexities involved in their roles. That is why his guidance is clear, pragmatic and actionable.

Frequently recognized by his peers for his professional accomplishments, David has presented CLE-accredited lectures on matters related to multi-party settlements, spoliation and effective depositions. He is currently a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and has previously served on the Business Development, Finance, Litigation, Recruitment and Strategy Development Committees.
