Markeya Fowler is an associate in Chuhak & Tecson’s Employment and Litigation practice groups focusing on employment and labor defense and civil litigation defense. She enjoys the practice of law because there is always something new to learn and apply to improving her clients’ goals and experiences.

Overview

She feels that she is always continuing to grow and expand her legal knowledge. To Markeya, the most challenging part of practicing law is the constant change, but it is also the best part. There is always a new situation, matter or law to analyze and attack with relish. And, there is always the reward of getting the best results for her clients.

Markeya counsels clients on employment law, including advice on terminations and disciplinary actions, drafting and revising handbook policies for legal compliance and responses to charges and representations before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state agencies. She has experience presenting and defending cases before the Illinois Workers Compensation Commission (IWCC) and preparing proposed decision and appellate briefs to support case decisions for the IWCC and Illinois Appellate Court. She also has significant experience defending clients in state court litigation, including providing written discovery, drafting and arguing dispositive motions and taking depositions of key witnesses, plaintiffs and experts.

Passionate about finding the best solutions for her clients, Markeya will work through the issues and achieve a result that both satisfies and protects the client. That is what makes her devotion to her practice so gratifying. She is always accessible and willing to hear a client’s side of the problem and find solutions to resolve that issue. She knows that every client and matter is different and requires an individual approach. To provide the most effective and productive client service, it is critical to identify the differences among clients and their issues and respond to their specific needs.

Markeya received her B.A. degree in social relations and policy, political theory and constitutional democracy from James Madison College at Michigan State University. She received her J.D. and a health law certificate from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She is a prolific and accomplished writer and speaker and enjoys addressing current issues in the law. She is an executive board member on the auxiliary board for Lawyers Lend A Hand, which provides on-on-one tutoring for children in the Englewood and Grand Crossing neighborhoods of Chicago.

Markeya enjoys a large family and when she is not in the office, she spends valued vacation time with them in Michigan and loves traveling with friends.
